Evolution of a Journal

Many professional journals change with the times. Take YC: Young Children for example. NAEYC: The National Association for the Education of Young Children has a nifty online companion to this print journal called Beyond the Journal.

The Beyond the Journal website offers readers:

"... a number of articles, resource lists, and other documents online that are not included in the print issue. (The same publication guidelines and peer review process used for print articles applies to online articles.) And sometimes an article has such broad appeal that we include it in both Young Children and Beyond the Journal. Typically the online pieces in Beyond the Journal are useful and timely resources for the early childhood community and for others interested in the education and development of young children."

The print version has also gone through several iterations:
  • The Meriam Library own the print version of YC: Young Children, 2002- date. Call Number: LB1140 A1 J6 (Periodicals)

  • It used to be called Young Children. We own 1964 - 2001. Call Number: LB1140 A1 J6 (Periodicals)

  • Before 1964 it was Journal of Nursery Education. We own 1956 - 1964. Call Number: LB1140 A1 J6 (Periodicals)

  • And last but not least, this journal started as Bulletin of the National Association for Nursery Education. We own 1950 - 1956. Call Number: LB1140 A1 (Periodicals)
